Cognitive function

Posted by , 10-01-2012 10:12

A diet rich in Omega-3 fatty acids and vitamins C,D,B and E may prevent cognitive decline in elderly people. This was the result of a study done by American scientists. In older adults who don't have dementia, high plasma levels of vitamins B, C, D, and E, as well as high plasma marine omega-3 fatty acids were associated with better cognitive performance and a healthier brain as seen on MRI. But a poor diet, indicated by high plasma trans fat levels, predicted both lower cognitive scores and reduced total cerebral brain volume. The results of this study were recently published in the online version of “Neurology”.
