Ein Ernährungsmuster, das reich an Omega-3-Fettsäuren und den Vitaminen C, D, B und E ist, kann wahrscheinlich den Gehirnabbau im Alter bremsen. Das haben amerikanische Forscher in einer Studie festgestellt. Versuchsteilnehmer, deren Blutspiegel hohe Niveaus dieser Wirkstoffe enthielt, wiesen ein höheres Gehirnvolumen auf als Teilnehmer mit geringeren Werten. Außerdem schnitten Personen mit höheren Werten an Omega-3 sowie Vitamin C, D, B und E in Gedächtnistests besser ab, berichten die Wissenschaftler im Fachmagazin "Neurology".
